Empowering Windsor’s Future Engineers: Welcoming Our First Co-op Cohort

At NextStar Energy, we believe the future of innovation is powered by people, and that starts with investing in the next generation.

This fall, we proudly welcomed our first-ever cohort of engineering co-op students from the University of Windsor into Canada’s inaugural EV battery module manufacturing facility. It’s a major milestone in our journey, and one that reflects our commitment to building opportunities from the ground up.

As featured in a recent University of Windsor article, students like Michael Schembri and Lauren Schmidt are doing more than observing—they’re contributing directly to our startup operations. From process development and data analysis to technical equipment operation and SOP creation, they’re applying their skills in real time and making a tangible impact.

In return, they’re gaining exposure to cutting-edge EV battery technology, developing cross-functional capabilities, and discovering future career paths right here in Windsor.

This inaugural program sets the foundation for a strong partnership with the University of Windsor, one that builds a local talent pipeline, strengthens our community, and supports the growth of Canada’s clean energy sector.
