NextStar Energy is proud to mark a major milestone in its journey to power Canada’s electric vehicle future: 8 million safe work hours logged on the construction of our world-class battery manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario.
Watch the Milestone Come to Life:
This achievement represents more than time—it’s a testament to the dedication, precision, and safety-first mindset of over 9,000 Canadian trades workers who have brought this project to life since it began in 2022. Together with our construction partner, Alberici-Barton Malow (A-BM), we commemorated this milestone on-site with the very people making it happen.
“This achievement marks more than work hours. It’s a reflection of the incredible dedication and collaborative efforts from countless individuals, working together to bring NextStar Energy to life,” said Danies Lee, CEO of NextStar Energy.
At 4.23 million square feet, the site is one of the largest battery manufacturing facilities in North America. And despite the sheer scale of the project, we are proud to have maintained a zero lost time injury record (LTIR) from the outset—a powerful demonstration of our collective commitment to safety.
“Eight million safe work hours is an incredible milestone… I’m extremely proud of the commitment put forth by the incredibly skilled tradespeople,” said Sean Thibeault, Project Director at A-BM.
The momentum doesn’t stop here. Since fall 2024, NextStar has already started producing battery modules and is preparing to launch cell production later this year. With more than 800 employees hired to date, we’re scaling fast—built on a foundation of safety, innovation, and collaboration.
“The focus on safety never stops, ensuring that each and every worker goes home safely at the end of the work day,” added Marc Arsenault, of the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario.
As we move closer to full-scale operations, this milestone reminds us what’s possible when people come together with shared purpose—and a strong safety culture at the core.
