Battery modules are now in production at NextStar Energy, marking a major milestone in Canada’s push toward an electric future.
“We are thrilled to begin battery module production at NextStar Energy, which is a pivotal landmark for our operations,”
— Danies Lee, CEO, NextStar Energy
A First for Canada
NextStar Energy is home to Canada’s first large-scale EV battery manufacturing facility. When complete, the site will have the capacity to produce 49.5 gigawatt-hours annually—enough to power 450,000 vehicles every year.
Built by Thousands, for the Future
Since breaking ground in 2022, more than 7,500 skilled tradespeople have contributed nearly 5.7 million work hours to bring this site to life. Today, over 2,000 workers continue showing up daily, helping shape the foundation of North America’s EV supply chain.
What’s a Battery Module?
Each battery module is made up of several battery cells, enclosed in a casing manufactured right here in Canada. These modules are then grouped into a battery pack—the heart of an electric vehicle.
Hiring the Next Generation of Talent
NextStar Energy is also growing its team. Of the 2,500 jobs planned, more than 450 roles have already been filled—and hiring continues. We’re committed to building a diverse, highly skilled workforce right here in Windsor.
