On July 19, 2024, NextStar Energy proudly marked its first anniversary, celebrating a year of impressive milestones, steady progress, and deep community engagement. As a joint venture between Stellantis and LG Energy Solution, NextStar is on track to become Canada’s first large-scale electric-vehicle battery manufacturing facility—and our journey is just getting started.
- NextStar Energy to become first large-scale, domestic, electric-vehicle battery manufacturing facility in Canada with an annual production capacity of 49.5 gigawatt-hours and to create more than 2,500 new Canadian jobs
- Construction continues at a steady pace with Module operations expected to start in the early fall, followed by Cell operations in 2025
- To date:
- Construction of the Module building and installation of equipment is now nearly complete
- Construction of the Cell building’s exterior is approximately 90 per cent finished; interior construction and the installation of equipment have begun
- More than 325 of the 2,500 projected NextStar Energy jobs are already filled
A Day to Celebrate and Give Back
To mark the anniversary, NextStar Energy hosted a Power-Up Foundation Day celebration for employees, their families, and community guests. The event included games, food, and a dunk tank that brought some laughs—all for a good cause.
Proceeds from the dunk tank were donated to Transition to Betterness (T2B), which supports patients and families in local hospitals. In addition, a food drive supported the UHC – Hub of Opportunities Food Program.

It was a chance to come together, recognize the hard work of the past year, and give something back to the local community.
What’s Next
As construction continues, hiring will ramp up and more milestones are on the horizon. NextStar Energy is focused on building a skilled, diverse team and supporting long-term growth in the region.
